Greetings from Frankfurt

We made it to Frankfurt alive!! After climbing a rather large hill, encountering a very unhelpful bus driver and missing one train on a German train system that seems to be perpetually late, we arrived in Frankfurt shortly after four o’clock.

Vertical hill climb with heavy bags was hard work!

Minor points to note: the people in Luxembourg are not particularly friendly, some Germans don’t speak English and splashing out on a private room every now and then could be the best decision you ever make.

Tonight, for example, I couldn’t handle sharing a room after last night’s roommates from hell. To start with one of them ate in the room leaving a rather disgusting and disturbing odour and the other (presumed daughter of first roommate) didn’t return to the room until gone midnight. Half way through the might I awoke to the sound of snoring, the kind that belongs to an 87 year old man not a forty something year old woman. This was a serious low point, I don’t think I’ve ever wished as much evil on someone as I’ve did that woman at 3 o’clock this morning. Not only this but at 6am she was throwing stuff around the room, operating a travel iron and generally making me wish as though the gates of hell would swallow her. No such luck, but as previously mentioned that has only made me more grateful for my private en suite today!

Another thing that we discovered yesterday was that our planned trip to Romania wasn’t going to work out. Apparently the train we had planned to take no longer exists and, consequently it would take 30 hours of train travel to reach our destination, making it impossible to do for a two day stay. So with some quick googling and reorganisation we are now staying in Pecs, Hungary for a few days! It definitely pays to double check your route planner before you end up stranded!

Frankfurt food to follow but here’s a picture of my view for now…

Update

There is a mystery door in the ceiling in our Frankfurt hostel. I’ll let you know if we make it to tomorrow alive.
